Scarlett Johansson is NOT a Two Sport Athlete

Scarlett has one thing going for her…lets make that two things:  Her looks and her movie career (minus The Island).  Her desire to make it a trifecta is both annoying and kind of detracts from her sexiness…her voice scares me.  I understand that most actors consider themselves “artists” with the ability to transend their current medium and thrive in another, but that is just not the case (i.e. Kevin Bacon).

The most painful part of this is her ability to leach off good musicians.

She does have the ability to get good musicians on her team though (Nick Zinner, Peter Yorn, and TV on the Radio’s Tall Firs and Celebration) so maybe they see something I don’t.

That all being said, I did enjoy some songs of her Tom Wait’s cover album and probably will off her next, but I don’t really like strictly cover albums from unproven “artists.”

Back from NYC and Bringing Music with Me

The trip to New York was amazing as usual, but now it’s back to work.  I’m heading to a YYY’s concert tomorrow in Pontiac, and so I thought I’d post the video for their new single “Heads Will Roll”.  More Pics to come of both NYC and of the YYY’s tomorrow.

I had Charles Hamilton stuck in my head the entire time I was in Brooklyn, but I left with a real desire to listen to reggaeton, and so here’s a song that I love right now Tony Dize “Descontrol” ft. Wisin y Yandel.

That’s all I’ve got right now (at work, had some time to spare), but I’ll have more later.

NYC for Memorial Weekend

Tomorrow at 8 am I’m flying off for NYC.  I’m super pumped to be back in the city and it’s been a fun start already going to the Tigers Game tonight.  Stay tuned for new club and indie rock releases, I’ve got a bunch that I just found.  I’ll keep you posted and show some pics of the city while i’m at it.

Why Twitter is So Nice – I Needed a Reminder

I was getting really confused as of late why I started Tweeting in the first place.   That was until I realized today.  If I follow the right people, I get hooked up with sweet music leads.  YoungL – the producer of the Pack now has a mailing list of songs he sends out, and diplo (of MIA fame) has his new project Major Lazer all over his Twitter.  Here’s a sample of Major Lazer:

Major Lazer – Hold the Line

I Keep Forgetting Songs

LMFAO – Yes

LMFAO – La La La

LMFAO – I Am Not Whore

La Roux – In For The Kill (Louis Phillippe D n’ B Mix)

The Best Thing Ever!

Old People Reviewing Music - That is all…it is hilarious…

Bruise Easily (Michael Woods Edit) and Show Me Love

Bruise Easily - Forgot to add this to the list, but there is something about female singers in house music that makes it more addicting.

Show Me Love - The singer reminds me of a JockJamz singer, which is awesome, but the beat is great!

Bands That Have My Ear

It’s been a long time since I’ve changed my music interest on facebook, or even recommended a band to listen to, but now that I’ve got my site going again – Here we go:

White Rabbits – This Brooklyn Band, one album deep, could be my new obsession.  Percussion Gun is a piano rock song that brings Cold War Kids to mind, except with a few more members.  Any time a band reminds me of CWK, it’s a good sign.

Meiko – This video is a perfect example of why I like her.  It looks like an amateur filmed it, and then her voice comes out.  She has one of the most interesting voices.

Phoenix – Electro-rock will always have a soft spot in my heart.  My friend, Brian Karadsheh, showed me this band and it definately helps to replace the void The Killers left after Hot Fuss and in between The Bravery albums. Brian’s Favorite Phoenix Song

Passion Pit – This one is a bit mainstream now haha, how quickly bands can catch on.  I love everything about this band, even the reason why they formed.  This could be the next big band like MGMT, although I hope they’re better live.

The Decemberists – My First Indie Band…now they’re badass.

Bon Iver – New Folk Obsession…thanks Justine

Finally:

Secret! – Like I wouldn’t have a video from him on my music page.

Get Your Summer Music Right!

With the summer almost in full effect, I find that now is the perfect time to get new music.  Be it driving to work or day drinking at MSU, there is a lot of time for music and perfect condition to listen to it.  Here are my selection, some are old, but if you scrap the rust off they’re still gold:

Tinchy Stryder – Number 1 - a young English gent that is topping UK charts

Tinchy Stryder – Take Me Back

Wale – Chillin’ w/o Lady GaGa

Guru Josh Project – Infinity 2008 (Klaas Vocal Edit) – The Video is actually mislabeled.  You have got to get the Klaas Vocal

K.I.G. – Head, Shoulders, Kneez, and Toez – Has a bit of a reggaeton theme

Yuksek – Tonight – This one won’t be for everyone, I can tell you that right now, but it reminds me of MSTRKRFT (Fav DJs)

Heartbreaker – MSTRKRFT (ft. John Legend) – My favorite song right now

Up in the Club – Lil\’ Wayne ft. Swizz Beatz

And Finally:

David Guetta ft. Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over

End of the Trip (England and Spain)

At the conclusion of this trip, it has become very apparent to me that this will be an experience that will be impossible to replace and explain in its entirety.  Having both my sister and parents come and join me at the end was icing on the top and really put a great finish to the six weeks.  Spain has now become one of my favorite places in the world.  Barcelona, Madrid, and San Sebastian were the three places we had decided to visit, and I was very happy with this decision.  Of those three, I would have to say that San Sebastian was the best.  It is a picture perfect area, with a giant cove and an island in the middle.  It is a town you’d see in a James Bond movie, with old buildings and impressive landscapes.  We were also able to go surfing in the south of France, which is just at the border.  It was amazing.  The surf camp wasn’t anything special, but I almost appreciated it more become of its barebones appearance.  The tents allowed us to brave the rain, but that was only for a brief period of time, because between surfing on a variety of beaches and hanging out with a bunch of the other campers, there wasn’t much time to sleep.  We were only there for a small time, but it was a great experience to have, and I definitely want to go surfing in the near future.  It was everywhere in the northern parts of Spain too.  Back in San Sebastian they had two large beaches where competitions were held and where the locals would surf as well.
We were also in San Sebastian during Grande Semena, which is a huge celebration that had a firework contest at the end of every night.  This was easily one of the most enjoyable events of my life.  I thought I had seen every style of firework in my brief 20 years, but this contest had shown me things that I had never seen before in the firework arts.  The picture that is shown actually covered the sky with gold.  It was amazing.  It was a fairly appropriate representation of my entire trip, and I was able to experience it for the next two days.  All in all, this trip has set a high mark for all travel, and I hope to reach this level every time I take a trip.
